Stoke city striker Peter Crouch has said that he was extremely disappointed to be left out of the Euro 2012 selected by the manager Roy Hodgson, but has said that he will definitely make it into the squad for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
The 31-year-old striker has a fantastic record for the England national team after having scored 22 goals in just 42 international matches. However, he failed to be a first-team regular under the former manager Fabio Capello, while he was left out of the squad entirely by the former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson, who took over the England managerial job recently.
However, rather than announce his retirement from the international scene, Peter Crouch has said that he would like to work his way into the 2014 World Cup squad. Even though Peter Crouch will be 33 years of age when the World Cup kicks off in 2014, he is confident that Roy Hodgson will be able to select him as one of the experienced members of the squad. Hodgson has indicated that he is likely to use a number of young players for the start of the 2014 qualification campaign. Peter Crouch comes on the back of the Europa league experience with Stoke city last season.
“The manager rang me the day before the squad was announced and said it was a toss-up between me and Andy Carroll and obviously he went with Carroll. He was looking for one target man and out of the two of us he went with Andy. It was one of those things and I’ve got to focus now on the next World Cup. It was documented that Capello never came to the Britannia Stadium so it’s difficult to pick players who you haven’t seen play,” said Peter Crouch ahead of the start of the new season.
